Injection Molding RFQ Readiness: Send, Flag, or Hold

An RFQ should give suppliers enough controlled information to quote the same scope. Known gaps can be flagged, but missing core files, material intent, or volume can make quotes slow, padded, and difficult to compare.

Step 1: Prepare the RFQ

Start with one controlled package and identify the person responsible for its current revision.

Step 2: Review files

Confirm the 3D model, 2D drawing, critical dimensions, and revision status agree before sending.

Step 3: Review material

State the required material intent and identify where substitution is allowed rather than leaving suppliers to guess.

Step 4: Review program intent

Suppliers need annual volume, first-order intent, tooling objective, and realistic timing to propose comparable solutions.

Step 5: Review acceptance scope

Flag critical dimensions, appearance zones, inspection expectations, secondary operations, ownership, and delivery scope.

Step 6: Flag known gaps

A visible, controlled gap is better than an invisible assumption. State what is open and how suppliers should quote it.

Step 7: Send or hold

Send complete packages, send conditionally when gaps are controlled, and hold when missing core inputs prevent a useful quote.
